About The Role

We are looking for an experienced cloud engineer to help us scale Cuvva’s systems.
You are an AWS expert and excited by the future of cloud services, serverless and the new ways of working it affords. This is not an operations role. Alongside a mix of other lead and backend engineers, you will be developing new, reusable patterns and solutions for other engineering teams at Cuvva whilst keeping the security, reliability, and performance of our systems best-in-class.

You care deeply about building rock-solid infrastructure for the long term, with a track record of delivering solutions which support your team and product: Cuvva as seen by our customers will be created by you.

Key Responsibilities

Supporting, maintaining, improving Cuvva's Cloud Infrastructure, with focus on Computing, Networks (DNS), Storage and security for these areas.
Creating and implementing well-designed infrastructure as Terraform modules which can be used as building blocks for our product, platform and data engineering teams.
Identify scaling bottlenecks and opportunities to prepare for the next level of customer growth.
Evangelise infrastructure-as-code practices and be the go-to expert for AWS for engineers across the company.
Own, implement and continuously improve monitoring and alerting across our infrastructure.
Champion the use of managed services and other opportunities for teams to reduce the amount of code they need to write and systems they need to maintain.
Improve time-to-deploy for our large infrastructure stack with many environments.
Identifying and resolving security or vulnerability concerns within our architecture
Maintaining regular updates of our systems (e.g. EKS, RDS) to ensure engineers can leverage the latest features of the supporting infrastructure.
Comfortable with scripting and writing code in at least one high-level programming language to automate areas of manual work.
Work independently with minimal supervision and have an ability to quickly adapt in a constantly changing environment.

You May Also Get Involved In

Iterating and improving our technical documentation allows all engineers to easily provision and change infrastructure.
Working closely alongside software engineers across Product & Data Engineering to improve the safety, speed, stability and developer experience of our services.
Training and up-skilling engineers with tools and processes for cloud infrastructure.
Frequently liaising with engineering leadership on any risks, cost and security requests (e.g. assisting in regular penetration testing).

Fully managed infrastructure - we leverage our providers (AWS, MongoDB) as much as possible and avoid manual management.
High level of Terraform coverage and always increasing.
All of our services are written in either Go or Node and are Dockerised for ease of deployment.

Our approach to hybrid working is super flexible; we only ask people to come in 3 times a quarter for a team building or company event. The rest of time it’s up to you where and how you work. You can of course come into the office as much as you like, there is a happy hour and something going on at least once a week but it's entirely up to you!

Excitingly, we're currently trialling a 4 day work week until 30th September, where nothing changes in goals, pay, allowances or holiday etc, but we have a super focussed Monday to Thursday and then every Friday off! So people get a meaningful rest every week. Following the trial period we might end up back to 5 days or a different variation, or extending the trial in some way but we’re keen to see how it goes!
